coolant in radiator top and header tank are bright green -- why this colour  ???
is it something isuzu would put in during servicing  .

in the header tank there are tiny crystals like salt or sugar clinging to the sides -- any ideas what these are please ??? .

thanks

Thats Shell or John Deere  antifreeze and summer coolant or similar as the bright green makes leaks easy to spot and the tiny crystals are showing its not at the right strength - check in your hand book .

thanks gribble , do you mean too strong or too weak , guessing weak as its never been changed in 40,000 miles i,ve had it.
unfortunatley dont have a handbook , but will it cause any probs , can always top it up come winter.

is the green just dye then or something else
my daughters polo as pink in hers , are they all the same

thanks

they put a dye in it so you can identify what it is when it leaks out!

eithan is of course means other troopers  as his  would never leak.  Smile

Pink or Red might be organic stuff  not glycol  - the two  types dont mix .

Yours is understrength -  drain ,flush and refill

Either/or on the 2.8/3.1.

I use the blue stuff then mix it 2:1 Water:Anti-freeze and change it annually on my 2.8. Never had an issue.

Dunno about the 3.0.

Reason for changing it and the differences is the effect old coolant has on cast ally blocks. The chemicals degrade over time and produce acids that corrode the metal. The blue stuff is more aggresive and degrades faster. This means that they produced the red stuff for the ally engines as people tend to never change it and leave it longer between intervals. It helps to prevent internal damage.

Well thats what I have been told anyways. Might be wrong.
