|
|
I've recently acquired an '05 55 plate Chevrolet LUV 3.0 (2999cc) TD, which has done 93000 miles. I'm trying to determine whether it has a timing chain or belt, but can't tell by just looking at the engine as there are so many different belts.
The chassis number is MPATFS77H5H559939 and the engine number (from the V5) is CY0701. I can't find the engine number stamp on the block however.
I'm missing the details of the last service and I'm worried if it is belt driven that it could be overdue and dont want to risk blowing up my engine!
Any assistance would be very much appreciated

Hello Wirdy, I tried the Chevrolet dealers who were not very helpful as they don't sell these vehicles, just the cheap and cheerful re-badged Daewoos. I've also tried Isuzu UK and Europe who guessed it might be a gear driven engine but couldn't be certain. I don't know if GM have snapped up any other firms that may have sold this type of truck. There must be someone somewhere that does, as this does not appear to be an import...
I have photo's of the engine if it helps, but I'm not sure how to upload them onto this forum? |

Thank you Markymoan, I might just have to embarrass myself and ask my mechanic to change it for me. I'll either get laughed at, or a bill, neither of which are appealing |

if it is the same as the new rodeo 3.0l which funnily enough we have a chevy colorado in the yard at the minute then it's both gears and chain.
if it's the chevy that has a chrome bar that splits the headlights in two then they suffer with blowing the ecu's we have done 2 now and in both ecu's it melts 2 chips right in the centre of the ecu this results in a non start.
it's a very basic version of our rodeo engine which should have coded injectors but this chevy you can't code them, there is also no transponders or immobiliser, tech2 can access it but it doesn't know the fault codes and after an ecu replacement which costs£2500 it leaves the check engine light on and you can't clear it on tech2.
send me the photos and i'll post them up for you |

Hello Eithan H
There are no chrome bars splitting the lights, but it does have a plastic/chrome insert in the grille with the Chevrolet motif inside. I hope mine isn't prone to the ECU meltdown, as I'd be knackered without my truck
I'm really chuffed with the truck overall which is saving me nearly £50 per month on diesel compared to my old Transit. The only faults I've got are the rear passenger side electric window gets stuck 2/3 of the way down and the lock on the tailgate for the top covering the pickup bed does not lock.
I'll take some photo's at work tomorrow and email them to you. Let me know what you think |

My drivers side window was sticking halfway down so I pulled the door liner off(prise gently with a screwdriver). If the plastic
water deflector rips just tape it all up with Gaffer tape before you put the liner back.
I found the horizontal runners were rusty. Trickle some 3 in one oil in using a small piece of pipe and smear some silicon
grease into the glass runner. Fixed. |

I'm really grateful for the help you've all given to me. I'll try the fix on my window as it seems straight forwards enough.
I've just emailed the pictures to Eithan so hopefully will know soon if mine is the one prone to blowing chips... |
