Hi everyone, not a new 4x4 owner but new to thinking about offroading them....

My Isuzu's are begging me to take them off road but I have never tried it.
Having attempted to take a Range Rover off road I gave it up as a bad job best left to you real fans.

Some of your pics are awsome but I'd be worried about trashing the cars.

I have spent around £3,500 this year on the running gear & engine on my Lotus Isuzu so really want to treat it right. Is this possible? My bro is a real offroad freak & every time he takes his off road he semi trashes it.

Fortunately there are many gated roads near where I live and the condition of them is questionable in places so I get my fun driving them especially after it has rained as car drivers avoid them like the plague.

I really hope to be able to bring them to one of your meetings soon.

Off roading doesn't have to be damaging, in fact if he keeps breaking things then he's probably trying too hard! The aim is to get from A to B and end up with a working vehicle. OK if you want to do extreme stuff you will on occasion break things and even roll it but you shouldn't be doing that sort of thing in an unprepared vehicle without rollover protection etc. The other way to break things is if you go at it like a bull at a gate. I don't do much off roading other than what is neccesary to get to my place in France but I did off road a Suzuki for many years and didn't ever break anything significant.

I would suggest going to an off-road centre and getting a days tuition, if possible in your own vehicle, this would be a great way to start to learn the basics. I was lucky enough o get a half days course at the land rover experience as a freeby after we got my wifes new Freelander (company car) and I learnt new stuff there.

Green laning generally should be non damaging, maybe find a local 4x4 club and join up with them on a trip.

Our Pontefract offroad site was built specifically for the newer/posher makes of 4x4 and is difficult to damage your vehicle so long as u drive sensibly. but yet surprise many just what their 4x4's can do off the road.

May be it's just a little to far, for u to come to tho. all our days or on Sundays.

Hi there, yes Phillip is right you don't have to damage your car to have fun. My Trooper gets off roaded on a regular basis and so far so good but then I do have a Suzuki to hammer. My Trooper gets me to work each day and I have the dubious pleasure of towing our club trailer home from our meetings. Have a quick butchers at www.tv4x4.co.uk Please do not take too much notice of the nutters in Suzukis in Muddy Pictures cos if it ain't dramatic then it ain't a good photograph. There is also a picture and a video of my Trooper with about 3ft of air under the front wheels, it landed with no damage and I have continued to drive it with no problem. Our off road site at Oxley Shaw near Reading is exclusive to Thames Valley 4x4 Club there is plenty for the hard core off roader but there is also plenty for the shinies. We hold a meeting on the first Sunday of every month, the calender and all the maps are on the web site. We were at Avon Dassett last Sunday Mr Twister,Tomcat, Keefy all attended plus yours truly. Avon Dassett is a more extreme site not beginer friendly, we go there 2 or 3 times a year. It is a bit of a jaunt for our club members but reckoned to well worth it.
